Work With Me - Community Arts & Events
Work with Me
Community is an important element of my textile practice, as I believe craft skills are made to be shared.
I've worked with:

Here's some examples of recent projects I've worked on:
The Barrow Tapestry, 2025-present
Together with residents of Barrow Upon Humber, I'm designing five tapestry panels depicting the history of the village. The residents are embroidering the panels which will be displayed in the village hall upon completion.
Produced in collaboration with Barrow Parish Council and Create NE Lincs.
The Feminine Urge, 2024-present
The Feminine Urge is a collective of female and non-binary artists based in the North of England. Current artists span Hull, Bradford, Wakefield, Leeds, Grimsby and North Lincolnshire. In my role as producer for the collective, I arrange our exhibitions alongside our curator Lucy Brooke.
V&A DesignLab Nation, 2025-2028
As part of my freelance role within Hull Museums, I am coordinating the DesignLab Nation project between the V&A in South Kensington and Hull Museums. The project involves taking secondary school students from Hull to visit the collections of both organisations, drawing connections and responding to a design brief.
REPLAY by The Herd, 2024 & 2025
Working as a design assistant building and sewing set pieces for the REPLAY installation, which has been located in The Southbank Centre, London, and a textile mill in Bingley for Bradford City of Culture.
Cabinet of Curiosities, 2025
I worked with children and young people in Grimsby to discover what heritage means to them, and what heritage might look like for future generations. In the sessions I led, participants experimented with collage to make zines and used hand sewing skills to make felt fish relating to the fishing heritage of the town.
Project led by Our Big Picture.
Textile Tutor for Feral Art School, 2022-2025
Delivering the 6-8 week textile courses for adults in Hull. The course was expansive and covered a range of textile techniques including dyeing methods, screen printing, machine embroidery, machine knitting, weaving and hand embroidery. I also served as a member of the board during this time.

Workshops and Demos
I am happy to come and teach a variety of textile workshops, and have done so in the past to a wide range of ages and groups. I've done corporate creative workshops in the NHS and messy workshops for children in community interest companies.
I've also shown my portfolio to aspiring young artists and delivered a careers talk regarding the arts and creative industries.

Guest Speaking
I love to speak at events or groups on the topics of Art, Textiles and Creative Employment. Connecting with new people interested in these fields is always a pleasure!

I am based in East Yorkshire but able (and eager!) to travel as needed.
About Me
I graduated art school with a creative degree in Textiles in 2019, and since then have been working in the arts sector delivering projects, workshops and events to a wide range of audiences. I'm proud to bring textile skills to those I teach, knowing that we are caretakers of often ancient craft practices that will continue to be passed down through generations.
Interested in something else that I could offer?
That’s great! Email me, I’d love to hear about it.
Looking forward to working with you,
Rachel
